An Ottoman For My Living Room

A few months ago I posted about my ottomans, or “tuffets” as I call them, hereI showed a base for that post that was put together and it just needed paint, foam and fabric.

tuffet

Tuesday I got some fabric that I had ordered from fabric.com.  I bought this fabric to make a window valance for an upstairs bathroom.

Here they are all together.

Since I decided on the Braemore toile and stripe for the window valance, the Aviary toile was available for another project.  Luckily, I remembered the base I had for a tuffet in my garage and, while I had my free quart of Glidden black paint open for my coffee table, I got the wood base and painted the legs on it black.  {Don’t be peeking at the coffee table!}

I traced the top on the foam and cut it with a serrated steak knife.  I put that on the top and then covered it with some batting, which I stapled to the underside of the round.

I cut out my fabric leaving enough extra fabric all the way around so that I could staple that to the underside as well.  I also did a hole in the middle to do a tufted button, but I need to find the button kit to finish that off.  I’m also thinking of adding some kind of trim.

I had everything except for the fabric and that cost $14.98 a yard.

So because of this:

5 Things You Didn’t Know About . . . .

Yay!  It’s Wednesday!  You know what that means?  No.  Not that it’s the middle of the week.  It’s time for 5 Things You Didn’t Know About . . .!!

This week we are finding out 5 Things about Heather from Butterfly Genes

heather

Take it away Heather!  {I’m leaving Heather’s links as she sent them to me, because they do look like they are clickable as is}.

Favorite music at the moment: Our Worship Team just released our second CD, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Unshakable/dp/B002YI5S5I/ref=sr_shvl_album_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1265153754&sr=301-2">Unshakable</a> . It's what I sing the most. But then I also love <a href="http://www.christomlin.com/">Chris Tomlin</a>. I heart his stuff. And <a href="http://www.karijobe.com/">Kari Jobe</a>. She is amazing.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: One of two places: The Ozark Mountains near the White River or the Alabama Gulf Coast. Both places make me relax just thinking about them.

Favorite cocktail: at the moment...a sinus cocktail. HAHAHAHA! No, seriously. I have a sinus infection. Sinus cocktail shots are the 8th wonder of the world.  Other than that, I'd have to say...shrimp. =)

Best advice you ever received: Don't go to bed angry with my spouse and be the first one to say I'm sorry. I don't always abide by that, but it's always so much better when I do!

Person you most admire: My wonderful husband, whom I call Sound Man on my blog. He continues to amaze me even after being married almost 15 years.

Thank you, Heather!  It was great to find out 5 Things we didn’t know about you.

Altered Mini-Books

I bought a package of four mini-notebooks at the dollar store just because I thought they were cute and figured I could do something with them.

After making my candle project, I thought it would be nice to make a matching mini-book for one of the candles.
IMG_4845_2380
Then I made a second . . .

And a third . . .

And, yes, a fourth!
IMG_4869_2407

Three of them have images that I got from Karen over at The Graphics Fairy.  I love this one and have been saving it for quite awhile hoping I’d be able to use it somehow.  Isn’t that precious!  It reminds me of my daughter when she was little.

I printed them on HP Matte Photo Paper in “wallet size”.  I just used regular craft glue to attach everything.  You just need to let each paper dry before moving onto the next.  In between, I would put the books under something with some weight so they wouldn’t curl while drying.

Using wallet size allowed me to do a pretty scrapbook paper and then layer these graphics on top.
keepcalmpink
You can see it a bit more clearly on the Keep Calm mini-book that I also took an additional strip of paper {or a different one that worked with the main paper} to make a binding.

I think these are just too cute!  What a simple project to do with kids, too.

Random Decor Projects Around The House

I had a couple of quick little projects that I managed to get done last week.  These types of things are always a great pick-me-up, because it’s something I can get done in one evening and I don’t have to go to the store to get “something”.

You remember my gold crown stocking holder I got from Tuesday Morning.

IMG_4374_2089

I broke off the stocking holder part and got my spray paint out.

IMG_4668_2288

Here it is now spray painted white.  Even after 2-3 coats, the gold color underneath gives it an antique white look in person.  I got some new tags recently, so I added one to it.

IMG_4716_2307

I had this old picture I found in the basement.  Small and narrow, but with some great detail on it, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with it.  The frame was an antique gold and the print was of a bird on a branch.

IMG_4651_2294

I was lost in between the jewelry and scrapbooking aisles at Michael’s one day and stumbled upon these keys {you can just see the package in the background below}.  The keys have words on them like “Memories”, “Love”, etc.  I had this package of rub-on words that I had picked up months ago.  Finding a rub-on and a key that seemed to work together made the decision for me.

IMG_4652_2295

I spray painted the frame black first.  I decided to use the rub-on that says “precious memories” and the key that says “Memories”.  I covered the backing of the picture with my linen-like fabric from Joann’s.  Hot glued the key to the backing and put the rub-on on the outside of the glass.

IMG_4658_2298

I put it in my upstairs hallway where I have family pictures on ledge shelves.
