5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

This week our 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . . feature takes us to visit with Jen of Tatertots & Jello blog!

Favorite music at the moment: I love anything upbeat and happy. I am loving Cold Play and Keane right now.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: I would love to live somewhere WARM! Like Hawaii :)

Favorite cocktail: I don't really do cocktails, but I love a ice cold Diet Coke!

Best advice you ever received: Not to sweat the small stuff...

Person you most admire: I really admire the blogger Nie Nie. She has gone through so much with such strength and grace. She is such an inspiration to me to be a better person and mom!

Thanks so much, Jen!  It's been great to find out a little bit more about you!

Don't forget to enter our current giveaway!  Ends Thursday, February 25th!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

This week we are interrogating speaking with Karen from The Graphics Fairy!  I'm sure there are many of you who {like me} love the graphics that Karen shares with us all.  They translate into such beautiful and creative projects.

Favorite music at the moment:  I usually listen to a lot of Enya, but I just picked up a CD by Ingrid Michaelson which I love.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live:  I actually obsess about this one a lot! I would really like to live somewhere a little warmer and closer to the ocean. As I get older I find that I just can't take the Winters like I used to!

Favorite cocktail:  Ummm well, I don't actually drink. But, a friend of mine makes these amazing Basil Lemonade drinks in the Summer, they're mean't to be made with Vodka, but he makes mine without, and it's sooo delicious!

Best advice you ever received:  Do what you love. Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out what that is, but once you do it can really change your life.

Person you most admire:   My grandmother. She was so good at so many things. She was super crafty, she could weave her own fabric, sew, crochet etc. She was fluent in French, and was an expert gardener. She was very knowledgeable about antiques and she was quite savvy at real estate too!

Thanks so much Karen for sharing 5 Things we didn't know about you!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

Yes, it's been a few weeks, but we are back with 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .  I'll be sending some emails this week for participants, so check your spam box in case it gets diverted there.  I know that sometimes I find perfectly good emails in my spam box.

This week we are visiting with It's So Very Cheri!  Many of you know Cheri from her linky party.  The picture below may throw you, but that's because Cheri is in the midst of redoing her blog banner ~ on her own!

Favorite music at the moment: Jonas Brothers and Barney. Oh you meant the music I enjoy listening to, not what I hear all the time-Jazz, easy listening, Christian

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: Florida is beautiful and I do not miss the nasty winter that everyone has been dealing with but I do miss our friends and family. I love Branson, Mo. We have lived in several places and you just adjust and go with the flow. I don't know, there are things you like and dislike about everywhere.

Favorite cocktail: Lemonade or Coffee

Best advice you ever received:  At one of my baby showers (our first child)-A lady told me to make sure we kept our relationship ALIVE and that we spent time together because once the kids are all gone, you have to like and love the person you are living with. If you don't work at it you won't know your spouse by time the kids are gone and you will be trying to figure out each other all over again.

Person you most admire: This is a tough one because it depends on which area of my life you are talking about. I admire a lot of people for a lot of different reasons.

Thank you, Cheri, for sharing 5 things we didn't know about you!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

We interrupt your Wednesday for another edition of "5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .", as we visit with the talented and inspiration-provoking PK of Room Remix {the blog}!

Favorite music at the moment: I like a wide variety and can't listen to an entire CD of just one artist all the way through. Even if it's someone I really love, I get bored. At the moment - contemporary christian, pop and a little country thrown in here and there.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live:
I would like to live somewhere warm. I haven't thought a lot about where, because I won't be moving any time soon, so that would just frustrate me. :-) Ideally I would come back here for a month around Christmas time - just long enough though to get my snow fix.

Favorite cocktail:
I'm not much into cocktails really. My favorite beverage is my big mug of chai tea every morning. I might be addicted. :-)

Best advice you ever received:
My dad is a minister and always told me to put God first and everything else would work out. Not maybe the way I thought it would work out, but that it would always be okay in the end. Unfortunately I haven't always followed it, but I think it's good advice to live by.

Person you most admire:
There are many people I admire for different reasons. I would say one of the qualities I admire most in people is the ability to be comfortable in their own skin and to truly be themselves no matter where they are or who they're with.

Thank you, PK!

Be sure to check back next Wednesday to see who we find out "5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .".

As you were, people!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

Wow, Wednesday already! Today our 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . feature takes us to North Carolina for a visit with Lisa from Pickles and Cheese.

So, take it away Lisa!

Favorite music at the moment: Right now I really like Duffy. Something about that 60's Pop/Soul, "Mad Men" sound she's got that I really like.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: I would probably be living somewhere on the outer banks of North Carolina. I love it there.

Favorite cocktail: Cosmoplitan and I like them really weak!

Best advice you ever received: I have it posted on the sidebar of my blog: "Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics." ~ Anonymous

Person you most admire: I admire bits and pieces of a lot of people. I admire true kindness and talent but can't name just one person.

Truly words to live by in your "best advice" quote, Lisa! Thanks so much for letting us visit!

Be sure to come back next Wednesday when we will learn 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . another bloggy friend!

{I'll be sending emails to the next group of people I'd like to line up for this, so, you know, be prepared}. : )

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Welcome to my regular Wednesday feature. We're traveling to Arizona for this week's edition of 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

That's right! We're visiting with Karen from My Desert Cottage!

Favorite music at the moment: Colbie Caillet, Toby Lightman, Rob Thomas. I used to be a HUGE 80's hair metal girl...but Adult contemporary is more my speed now.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: My husband and I visited Tennessee a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. The area we were looking at has fairly mild winters, not to humid summers and lots of trees and water. The perfect place for me!!!!

Favorite cocktail: Strawberry Margaritas

Best advice you ever received: Don't let fear hold you back from doing something that you love or that is important to you. (Although I don't follow that advice as much as I would like to)

Person you most admire: Anyone who works hard to make their dreams come true.

Thank you, Karen!

Next Wednesday we visit with another blogger to find out 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .!

Don't forget ~ the current giveaway to PaperAddict.com ends Friday!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Welcome to 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . ., a weekly feature here, where we visit with a different blogger every week to find out a little more about them. This week we are visiting with Debbie from Love The Decor!

Favorite music at the moment: Christmas (we start playing it on Halloween in our home :) I think this tradition started when my girls were little and it started snowing on halloween. We all thought it felt like Christmas, so out came the music. We have continued the tradition. Hubby is not too keen on this idea (bah humbug) so we try not to play it when he is home :)

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: Italy but only for a year. Then I would move to the city my oldest daughter lives in to be close to my first grandchild due in April

Favorite cocktail: I am not much of a drinker, but I do like a margarita now and then. My beverage of choice is a Venti nonfat white mocha from Starbucks

Best advice you ever received: Be yourself and don't worry so much about what other think. I used to let my actions be determined by what others would think of me. this can be so limiting and inhibit creativity. It is so much more freeing to just be yourself.

Person you most admire: Just one? There are so many people I admire for different reasons. My hubby for one. Beth Moore( author, teacher) is another. She is a very Godly woman and I always say I want to be like her when I "grow up."

Thank you, Debbie!

I hope you'll come back next week for another session of 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Don't miss our Blog Of The Week this week ~ Signs of Obsession. There is a giveaway along with it!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Happy Wednesday and welcome to 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Today we are visiting with Nester from Nesting Place {where it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful}!

Many new bloggers {just like me earlier this year} come across Nester and just can't get enough. She was kind enough to join in and answer our series' questions.

Favorite music at the moment: Christmas music and I also love country music.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: I actually love where I live and we love North Carolina but we would love to live in an old farmhouse with land.

Favorite cocktail: Iced coffee. I know.

Best advice you ever received: Do what you love.

Person you most admire: My husband, he is endlessly encouraging. My dad, he is selfless and wise. My sister, I want to be her when I grow up. My mom has a fantastic sense of humor and has a knack for getting a great deal when shopping ~ it's an art.

Thank you so much, Nester! Make sure you come back next Wednesday to see who we find out 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

This week we are visiting with Chris of Just A Girl.

Favorite music--U2 is a constant for me. Always has been; always will be. However, I'm madly in love with Beyonce. Everything she sings just turns to gold. Love her!

Where would I live--I took a "girlfriend" trip to Italy with some other women about 8 years ago, and I swore it would be my life's goal to get back there some day. It is by far the most beautiful place in the world (because, you know, I'm a world traveler and all :) Florence, Italy. No doubt about it.

Favorite cocktail- Uh oh. I'm not a drinker. My friends tease me because my idea of a good wine is Riunite's Lambrusco. I went to a party one night and walked in with what looked like a jug of it under my arm. My friends have NEVER let me forget it. However, I got the last laugh 'cause it was only $9.00, and it lasted me forever! :-)

Best advice - Even though it went against a lot of thoughts the women in my family had, my mom ALWAYS told me, "NEVER marry for money." She would say, "Have your own job, bring home your own money, and feel a sense of validation because you can make it with or without a husband. I certainly didn't want to attend college full time while I was nursing a 5-week old, but I just kept thinking about how proud I would feel when I earned that first paycheck. That very same paycheck paid for Italy, by the way!

Person I admire - I have to admit that I simply admire characteristics of different people. Even the people I admire most have horrible faults, but I'm always drawn to people who want to do what's right and what's good, and those who believe things can be better than what they are.

Chris is hosting an "I Can Make That Party" on her blog on Monday, November 9, 2009.

I hope you've enjoyed our visit with Chris. Be sure to come back next week for "5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . " someone else!

Don't forget to enter my Special Birthday Giveaway ~ it ends tonight!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

Welcome to our weekly Wednesday feature, 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

This week it's Joy from Joys of Home.

Favorite music---I have three young adult sons in my home who are constantly playing guitar/drum hero, so most days I'm enjoying whatever music they're playing and singing. On the rare occasion that I get the chance to choose the tunes in our home, I usually choose calm and soothing music. You'll find me listening to spiritual music or to artists like Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Michael Buble, Josh Groben, Harry Connick Jr. and Jane Monheit.

Where would you live---I love living where I do. We are very fortunate to live close to most of our family and good friends. Although our house is a real fixer-upper, we love it. And as a bonus, we live in an area with mountains, lakes, beautiful scenery and all four seasons. But my husband and I do have a dream of living on several acres of wooded property, with a stream, in a cottage with a lot of character. And we'd love to have several out buildings; one for his motorcycles, one as a big workshop to build things like furniture, one as my artist studio, I think I'd like to learn to weld so I'd need a building for that, and then we'd need a huge barn for big family gatherings on the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yes, that would be a perfect dream place to live!

Favorite cocktail---I'd have to say shrimp cocktail. I don't drink alcohol, so the only cocktails I can think of are shrimp or fruit---I would definitely pick shrimp!

Best advice---Wow, this is a wonderful question! For as long as I can remember I've collected good quotes and advice. I'm always taping up post-it notes with great quotes from all sources like "You are who you choose to be" from the movie The Iron Giant, and "Go forward in life with a twinkle in your eye and a smile on your face, but with great and strong purpose in you heart" from a church leader. But I really think the best advice is the advice that I needed to hear at that specific point in my life. When I was pregnant with our first child a fellow school teacher advised me to make the sacrifice to be a stay-at-home mom because she wished she had done that. I took her advice and am so glad I did. Then there was the time when I was struggling with my only daughter and a younger friend of mine said that she hoped that I would be as close to my daughter as she was with her mother. I realized that I needed to take the time to enjoy my daughter and look for her good qualities instead of being so caught up in what frustrated me. I'm so thankful that I took her advice because as my daughter (and my sons) grew I found that often the very characteristics in our children that drive us crazy when they're young are the very same ones we want them to have as adults. When I was sad and mourning the fact that the dynamics of our family were beginning to change with my oldest getting married and the second and third leaving for far away countries, I really tried hard to heed the advice to "enjoy the moment." And right now, posted above my computer is the advice "Be today what you wish to be tomorrow."

Person you admire most---I have so many heroes, both dead and living. There is so much I can learn from everyone I come in contact with. But one of the people I admire most is my daughter. She makes a point of being happy. In fact, when people ask, "How are you?" her reply is always, "I'm happy, thank you!" And she has a confidence and determination that I could only dream of having! Those qualities have helped her to serve people in far away countries, Africa and Argentina to name a few. She is spiritual, faithful, kind, strong, adventurous, goal-oriented, and beautiful---inside and out, I am so blessed to be her mother.

Thank you so much for joining us! We have another blogger lined up for next week ~ you'll have to come back then to see who it is that we find out 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

Best advice you ever received: Seek God first and everything else will fall into place.

Person you most admire: There are 2...My mom and dad

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

Another lovely and talented blogger that I follow ~ may I introduce Miss Mustard Seed! As busy as she is right now, she has very graciously answered my questions.

Music – I love a wide variety of music, so it’s too hard to choose. The styles I like most are Musical Theatre, Christian Contemporary and Alternative.

Location – If I didn’t live in PA (which is a pretty nice place), I would love to live on a farm in the mid-west.

Favorite Cocktail – I don’t drink alcohol, but the one beverage I won’t give up is Diet Dr. Pepper.

Best Advice – Sleep when your baby sleeps!

Person I Admire – I can’t think of just one person, so I’ll say I admire people who are honest and do the right thing, especially when it’s really hard.

Please check back again next week for a new chapter in our 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . series.

Don't forget to enter our Design Patterns Company Giveaway, which ends on Friday, October 16th! You have up to 4 chances to enter and the winner gets to choose a pattern of her/his choice.

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . .

This week we are visiting with Kelly of Design Ties! Kelly had included some visuals in with her answers, but unfortunately, I couldn't get them in the post.

Favorite music at the moment: I’m all over the place when it comes to music. I like listening to Smash Mouth in the summer in the convertible with the top down J And I love Colin James & The Little Big Band and The Brian Setzer Orchestra J

Colin James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbploMln8Hg

Brian Setzer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfOm2teZiks

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: In a turquoise & purple house in Nova Scotia J Not sure exactly where, but a place similar to Hells Point – it has a tiny road, tall beach grasses that dance in the wind, and an amazing view of the water.

Favorite cocktail: Strawberry Daiquiri made with Bailey’s Irish Cream instead of rum. Yummy!!!

Best advice you ever received: Well, the most recent best advice I received was from Ruth Wells, a wonderful lady we met on our recent trip to Nova Scotia. Her and her husband sailed together for many years. Now that her husband has Alzheimer’s, Ruth is thankful that the two of them sailed when they did. So I guess what she’s saying is, live for the moment because you have no idea what the future holds.

Person you most admire: Anyone who is good-hearted, respectful, and true to themselves.

Tune in next week to find out 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . another bloggy buddy! Here's a link to the series with all the links in one spot.

Don't forget to enter our Paintings in Progress Giveaway ~ it ends Friday, October 9th! Julie Beck is offering one of her works entitled "Skeleton Keys"!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Every Wednesday I'm highlighting a blogger who answers 5 set questions about themselves {nothing really personal}.

This week we find out 5 things about:

Marie from Decorator On Demand

Favorite music at the moment: Oh that is a toss up between Arctic Monkeys and Kate Schutt, extreme opposites I know, but it just depends on my mood at any given moment.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: If I didn't currently live in Austin I would be back in California realistically, but if we are in a perfect world I would live some place like Italy or Bora Bora, again extreme opposites, ha!

Favorite cocktail: This is easy, Mojitos! So refreshing with that smashed mint in them.

Best advice you ever received: Don't ever be anyone you aren't.

Person you most admire: Wow, I guess I would have to say my Mom. She has had some hard knocks in life but has dusted herself off and has excelled in everything she has done. Great inspiration!

Thank you, Marie!

Be sure and check back next week for more of "5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . ".

Oh, and watch your email, I'll be sending more emails asking for participants by the end of this week. Who knows, I may be asking you for 5 things we don't know about you!

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . . .

Welcome to the second week of this new feature I'm trying called "5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . . ", where every Wednesday I will highlight a blogger who will answer 5 questions about themselves {nothing really personal}.

This week we find out 5 things about:

Laura Ingalls Gunn over at Decor to Adore!

1. Favorite music at the moment: To soothe the traffic beast my daughter made me a "mix cd" of Michael Jackson's greatest hits so I could channel my inner 80's girl, and I also love Lenka: Trouble is a Friend. But the song I am finding myself humming quite a bit is "Hero" by the Christian rock band Skillet. (I am totally rereading what I just wrote and laughing because it is all over the place. But I truly love all music~ much to the chagrin of my family and friends, as I sing all day long. A lot of 60's and show tunes.)

2. If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: My husband and I are at an age where we have begun to discuss where we will retire to. We have no idea. Since he was in the Air Force we were blessed to have lived and traveled all over the world and it is so hard to just pick one lovely place. However, it would involve a beach. He has however promised I will not be buried in Phoenix. I have come to appreciate the desert, but it is far from my favorite.

3. Favorite cocktail: I am a cheap date. When I do drink, which is very rare, I love Lambrusco wine by Reggiano and the Trader Joes peach champagne. But most of the time I just drink cola. Now who out there needs a designated driver?

4. Best advice you ever received: My all time favorite quote is by George Eliot: "It is never to late to be who you might have been." I keep this over my desk. As today is my first day of another semester sitting with 20 year olds, it helps.

5. Person you most admire: This is tough. Of course Jesus and Mother Teresa are way up there. But I am more apt to be touched by the everyday hero's like Mika Hill who is a wig maker. A custom wig normally runs 300-800 dollars and she just gives them away to alopecia and cancer patients. Just this morning I read about a local cab driver, Thomas Chappell, who is going to donate one of his kidneys to Rita Van Loenen, a regular customer he drives to dialysis. Wow. That makes me think "How can I bless someone today?"

So, there you have it ~ 5 Things You Didn't Know About Laura Ingalls Gunn of Decor to Adore. I knew I liked her! Here is a link to last week's post.

Be sure to check back next week when we find out 5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . {well, I can't tell you, you'll have to come back and find out!}.

5 Things You Didn't Know About . . . .

Favorite music at the moment: Currently the music from the cd Rejoice, Praise and Worship by Eternity.

If you didn't live where you do, where would you live: If I could, I would live closer to my daughters but after that I guess.....back a long tree lined lane in a beautiful cottage in the woods and it would be in a place that has a cold winter and a hot summer because I love the seasons.
Favorite cocktail: None.....don't drink.

Best advice you ever received: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and put on your lipstick and deal with it!

Person you most admire: Jackie Kennedy
